The Tunnel Yard Sale
The people who live above Hay Street clear out their apartments all at once, in the same place, on the biggest walking night of the month — in the covered passage under 300 Hay Street.
Finding it
- Walk in from the Hay Street sidewalk through the tall brick archway
- The archway is numbered 325, directly under the round “300 Hay” sign
- Ground level, no stairs — look for the chalkboard sign out front
- On Hay at Maxwell, just north of the Arts Council
- Across the street from Stevie’s on Hay and Blue Moon Café
Why it is worth the walk
- A dozen sales in one lit corridor instead of a morning of driving
- Covered and open at both ends — shade off a late-August evening, and rain does not cancel it
- Hay and Maxwell close to cars at 4 PM, so you walk right up
- Apartment-sized finds: clothing racks, books, framed art, lamps, glassware, small tables
Good to know
- Bring small bills — assume cash, and haggling is expected
- Level concrete the whole way, no steps or curbs
- The rear of the passage stays clear as a resident walkway
- A private, resident-organized sale — not on city property, and not part of Cool Spring Downtown District’s official 4th Friday programming
